Paddington 2

Director: Paul King
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 2.0

Generally even-spirited bear Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw), who lives with Mary (Sally Hawkins) and Henry Brown (Hugh Bonneville) along with their children (all of them quite busy with hobbies and such), wants to purchase a very rare pop-up book for his Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton) but can't afford it - later, when the item is stolen by washed-up actor Phoenix Buchanan (Hugh Grant), Paddington is accused of the crime and locked up.  As with the first one, it's mostly for the kiddos with the silliness (although there are fewer destructive antics in this, which is a relief) and easy pathos (for a sticky-sweet finale), but Grant's having an unusual amount of fun playing the villain, and the supporting cast, especially Knuckles (Brendan Gleeson) and Felicity Fanshaw (the ever-great Joanna Lumley), add a nice bit of whimsy.  Apparently, in 2021 it passed Citizen Kane on Rotten Tomatoes' list of best films with a 100% approval rating.  Were only elementary school students and marmalade fiends allowed to vote?
