The Good Nurse

Director: Tobias Lindholm
Year Released: 2022
Rating: 2.0

Nurse Amy Loughren (Jessica Chastain), who's a single mother raising two kids but has a bad ticker (and no insurance), becomes friends with brand new co-worker Charles Cullen (Eddie Redmayne), but the sudden deaths of several patients for mysterious reasons catches the attention of the hospital's administration and the authorities.  The real-life story it's based on is definitely of personal interest - one of the many places Cullen worked was where I was born and, at another location, he was assigned to my friend's Grandmother (who may have been a victim but they chose not to exhume her) - but the way it's presented is as an extended television episode of a medical drama/police procedural crossover with two A-list stars leading the way.  What doesn't help matters much is that it's never clear what "motivated" Cullen to do this - all he says is "they didn't stop me" - and essentially leaving a dark cloud over the entire movie.  The most interesting aspect of it - and one that needed further examination - is how he was treated by the medical establishment the same way the Catholic Church has handled their evil priests: instead of stripping him of his license, they let him keep working in order to protect themselves.  We could have used the Spotlight team to look into it....
