Or, Most Men Are Evil: 90's Edition.  Nursing home resident Ninny (Jessica Tandy) tells unhappy housewife Evelyn (Kathy Bates) the story of "Idgie" (Mary Stuart Masterson) and the strong bond that forms between her and Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker), who enters an abusive marriage with villainous Frank Bennett (Nick Searcy) ... and ends with Frank's truck in the river and his body turned into barbeque.  The appeal of this is lost on me - the characters are largely repellent, and when it needs to jack up the "drama" it casually tosses in an appearance by the KKK (because why not), Evelyn being bullied, Ruth dying from cancer, a courtroom trial and, of course, cannibalism.  Perhaps having an elderly woman with diminished faculties be your primary narrator isn't the wisest move - I say this with total pity for anyone in that position - and neither is trying to "emulate" any one of our esteemed Southern Gothic writers, whose names I refuse to list here.  If Kathy Bates can't make your movie better, someone's doing something wrong.
