The Court Jester

Director: Norman Panama and Melvin Frank
Year Released: 1956
Rating: 3.0

Considering that I'm not a Danny Kaye fan - he's a cross between Richard Simmons and Jerry Lewis - this is fairly surprising: the musical numbers are kept to a minimum, the sets are gorgeous (if I'm not mistaken, Hitchcock regular Hal Pereira was one of the designers), and the memorable word play is downright astounding. Plot is simply a string to carry out a sequence of musical numbers and gags (as always), but the gags are always fresh (and Kaye is less irritating than he was in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty). Not my 'thing,' really, but who can say 'no' to midgets in Robin Hood outfits?
