Or, "Charlie Gets Possessed and Tries to Destroy the Earth."  Ten years have passed since there was a Kaiju (massive alien thingamajigs) invasion and Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), son of a 'war hero,' and young engineer Amara (Cailee Spaeny) get recruited by the military just in time to stop another global onslaught, this time courtesy of a brainwashed Dr. Newton Geiszler (Mr. Day).  The first installment may not have been "good" but at least it was directed by someone who's competent - and an Oscar Winner - while this is just a sloppy mess of bad acting and subpar effects - it's not Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers-bad, but at least that show had a few cheap thrills: China funding a lousy movie that was influenced by the Japanese.  Del Toro was right to scoot out of there.
