The Meg

Director: Jon Turteltaub
Year Released: 2018
Rating: 2.0

After a deep ocean exploration goes awry, Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) - long haunted by a incident from his past in which he had to make a decision to let some of his friends die - gets called in to recover the trapped crew (which includes his ex-wife ... huh), only to find out that there's a megalodon roaming around, the largest shark scientists believe ever existed. It's a B-movie Jaws with some high-tech gizmos at play and carried by Statham's charisma - it did extremely well at the summer box-office, playing off of people's fear and fascination with killer fish (the Discovery Channel has known this for a long time). Unlike Sharknado and the Piranha remake and Anaconda, at least it isn't 100% idiotic (although the title should be plural).
