Physically and emotionally exhausted detective Erin (Nicole Kidman) goes looking for a criminal named Silas (Toby Kebbell) in California, periodically flashing back to many years earlier when she, working undercover, tried to infiltrate a group of bank robbers. It's intended as a character study, but there isn't much there to examine - the dialogue is a bunch of scummy people yelling at each other; the plot could have been ripped from a one-hour TV crime program - leaving Kusama's camera to make love to the make-up team who valiantly tried to shrivel up and distort Kidman's face. I will admit I like the 'twist' at the conclusion that loops the movie back to the beginning, but that only leads to more questions not worth sifting through.
