Meet the Feebles

Director: Peter Jackson
Year Released: 1989
Rating: 3.0

Inventive and gross cult film from New Zealander Jackson, who has a diverse filmography that includes not simply what critics might call "art" (Heavenly Creatures, Lord of the Rings) but "trash" (Bad Taste) as well. Meet the Feebles is no doubt grouped in the latter category, though such a classification shouldn't deter fans of underground cinema from seeking it out - it's a live-action movie with handmade puppets (which Jackson helped design and make!) that are addicted to food, sex, drugs, contract AIDS, experience flashbacks, make porno and engage in an amalgam of other deviant acts. It's funny, unquestionably juvenile and (dare I say) a lot of fun - a guilty pleasure if there ever was one.
