Game Night

Director:  John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein
Year Released:  2018
Rating:  2.5

A loving couple, Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams), who came together by their interest in games of all sorts (including bar trivia and charades) participate in a couple's get together run by Max's brother Brooks (Kyle Chandler) that they at first think is fake but eventually realize is very dangerous. It's one of those 'is this real or isn't it' types of movies that plays the audience every step of the way ... and for the most part, it is a fun excursion that challenges expectations with some nice running gags (involving Lamorne Morris' jealousy and Billy Magnussen's Ivy League-level idiocy) not to mention a solid supporting cast (Chelsea Peretti, Michael C. Hall and Jeffrey Wright pop up) ... just try not to piece it together, since it's held together with rubber bands and about as logically solid as the Fabergé egg that meets its end on a dashboard. Jesse Plemons, however, is the real stand-out: he takes the role of the "creepy neighbor" and goes all in (Jenga and popcorn? I'm down).
