I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House

Director: Oz Perkins
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 2.0

Hospice nurse Lily (Ruth Wilson) stays in the same house as sickly writer Iris Blum (Paula Prentiss) ... and the spirit of one of Iris' characters, Polly (Lucy Boynton), may (or may not) still be in the place. Aesthetically it's very intriguing, with its measured camera movement and excellent cinematography by Julie Kirkwood ... but textually it's a bit lacking - House Terrorizes Innocent Woman! - with the sophomoric voice-over narration being an irksome distraction (I kept waiting for "It was a dark and stormy night..."). Director Perkins - son of the late Anthony Perkins and Berry Berenson - had to have been inspired by Pop's late career forays into cheesy horror ... and wanted to artsy the genre up a little: this is a step in the right direction.
