The Night Before

Director: Jonathan Levine
Year Released: 2015
Rating: 1.0

Three buddies (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anthony Mackie and Seth Rogan) team up to celebrate One Last Christmas with each other for some arbitrary reason (apparently something about becoming adults) and seek out the Super Secret Nutcracka Ball taking place in a mysterious NYC location. Pathetic in its attempt to milk emotional pathos from any of these 'characters,' it's really just another Seth Rogan Does Drugs movie in which Seth Rogan swallows loads of banned substances and acts silly, talking to statues and puking at Midnight Mass ... while JGL gets beaten up by two drunk Santas and Mackie has toilet sex with a drifter. Did I mention Seth Rogan likes taking drugs? Because Mr. Rogan, the Canadian actor, delights in mixing mushrooms and weed and cocaine ... in case you weren't aware from all the other goddamn movies in which he does the same thing. Also included with the price of admission: James Franco pulling the whole "Am I Straight or Gay" act (again) and Michael Shannon being Michael Shannon (you earn more than just wings for agreeing to be in this, good sir).
