The Shopworn Angel

Director: H. C. Potter
Year Released: 1938
Rating: 2.0

Pretty standard romantic movie, set during World War I, with actress Margaret Sullavan having a chance encounter with new recruit James Stewart, who falls madly in love with her. Completely predicable, contrived and forgettable - there wasn't a second anything happening was remotely unique - and both leads, which have good chemistry together, can't quite compensate for the average material (by Waldo Salt, no less). The ending, straining for palpable emotion, is forced.
