Ice Age: Continental Drift

Director: Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier
Year Released: 2012
Rating: 1.0

I'm not going to lie: the only reason I bother watching these Ice Age movies is for the character of Scrat and his love affair with his nut, which defines his life and is his primary source of torment. His Sisyphean narrative is considered the core 'linking segment' to whatever pandering, unimaginative storyline is taking place with the wooly mammoth, sloth and tiger - in this case, the world is crackling apart and a lunatic monkey is sailing around on an ice boat with his moronic crew, raising hell. That the character of Scrat, with his obsessive and noble single-mindedness is such an intriguing figure shows there is some kind of intelligence at work behind the family-oriented dreck and one can safely fast-forward past the Ray Romano nonsense to get to our fuzzy friend searching for, in this particular movie, Scratlantis (which he then finds ... and appropriately ruins). Addicts are rarely so captivating.
