Daguerréotypes (1976) review

Varda talks to some of the long-time inhabitants of the street she lived on, Rue Daguerre in Paris, and shows them at work: the butcher cuts meat, the perfume maker makes his special scents, etc. Though she's always had a preference for the quaint and quirky, this is exclusively quaint: home-y, cozy, but without a lot of substance and only a minimum amount of wistful voiceover. She uses a magic show performed in a cafe as a structural linking device to further reinforce how everyone's lives on that street are basically intertwined, but most of this warrants a big shrug. Hell, I barely look at my own neighbors unless I absolutely must interact with them....
