A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas

Director: Todd Strauss-Schulson
Year Released: 2011
Rating: 2.5

Well, at least they're getting a little better: installment three of the story of two bumbling stoners (John Cho and Kal Penn) has the two reuniting after their friendship hit an impasse: Harold is married and trying to please his bride's father (Danny Trejo) while Kumar is still wrapped up in his weed haze and has a pregnant ex-girlfriend to handle. While still puerile at heart, the flights of fancy in this one are often times hilarious: the robot that makes waffles (and has a crush on Kumar), the animation segment (damn cocaine!) and, most notably, the section with Neil Patrick Harris (still playing a whoring alternate version of himself) cockblocking Jesus (Christ, of course) and using his 'gay status' to try to seduce an actress. The side characters remain way more interesting than the (rather blasé) two stars, which is probably the point; I did not get the added perk of seeing this in three dimensions (!!), so I was not able to experience Mr. Trejo's digitized semen flying at me. It's for the best.
