Despicable Me

Director: Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud
Year Released: 2010
Rating: 2.0

Standard grouch-discovers-his-humanity-through-love storyline has aging supervillain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell and looking like Uncle Fester crossed with Gaspar Noé) wanting to shrink the Moon and reclaim his title as Greatest Baddie Alive, but meets with interference from an up-and-coming supernerd (Jason Segel) with similarly evil intentions. There are a few references to classic movies for the older crowd (Mission: Impossible, The Godfather), and cute little Twinkie-shaped workers for the kids to giggle at, but this doesn't have the depth of some of the better CGI movies to come out this year alone (Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon). The jokes tend to go flat, though I like Carell's faux-Russian accent.
