Jade

Director:  William Friedkin
Year Released:  1995
Rating:  0.5

Critically thrashed garbage from once-good Friedkin and rarely (if ever) good screenwriter Joe Eszterhas tries for sleaze-and-intrigue but fails at both eroticism and suspense. There's a prostitute running around nailing powerful men, a cocksure detective (David Caruso, doing the same thing he does on TV) on the case and a lot of incoherent scenes that lead to an unsatisfactory conclusion. If anything, this inspired a very memorable piece of advice on how to behave in The 40-Year-Old Virgin ("Be kind of a dick ... be David Caruso in Jade") and the car scenes are great: Friedkin shows more of an interest in directing traffic than actors.
