Gigantic

Director:  Matt Aselton
Year Released:  2008
Rating:  0.5

A young mattress salesman (Paul Dano) passes up the opportunity to impregnate a sexually available Zooey Deschanel in favor of adopting a Chinese baby, which has always been his lifelong dream (not playing pro football or winning the lottery). That is but one of the countless novelty elements in this decidedly meaningless puff piece - other idiocies include: John Goodman coughing up a brain tumor, Zach Galifianakis attacking Dano with a metal pole (for no real reason), a sniper in the woods shooting at random people (for no real reason), a love stricken scientist experimenting with rats (and chemical additives) and so forth. Dano's somnambulant routine is irksome; Le Zooey, left without a character, bats her eyes and calls it a day.
