The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Director: Andrew Adamson
Year Released: 2008
Rating: 1.0

More Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter for the second of Lewis' Narnia books, which - if I can trust my past judgment as a book-devouring 5th grader - are a lot more thoughtful and intelligent than what comes across on-screen. At least it's consistent with the first one: bland kids, expansive 'pretend' battles (fantasy death!), a patience-testing plotline, talking critters (Liam Neeson's Aslan is only given a small role in this; Tilda Swinton's Ice Queen shatters within a few minutes). When I asked some younger Potter/Lord of the Rings fans what they thought of this (and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe), several shrugged or said they were "okay," which isn't a ringing endorsement, but I suppose if you're a fan of the genre you swallow what Hollywood gives you.
