Ganja & Hess

Director: Bill Gunn
Year Released: 1973
Rating: 0.5

Sluggish, pointless update of the age-old vampire story, as a doctor gets infected with a tainted knife and becomes addicted to drinking blood (which looks a lot like tomato puree). It's crudely made, more dull than scary and the emphasis on experimentation misfires: I'm not saying director Bill Gunn had to make a movie like Blacula but the video box needs a special label on it, like "Warning: Filmmaker Attempting to Make Art."
