An Irish family receives word of a large inheritance and starts buying on credit; meanwhile, the daughter is impregnated by a scummy businessman, the brother betrays his IRA brethren and Dad is a drunk (big shock there). The stage play completely stymies Hitchcock, who is handcuffed by the screen limitations - the camera just sits there like a lump and the story is one of those kitchen sink tales that wallow in misery and poverty. Not helping the film any is the condition the public domain title is in, with the audio muffled so as to render the heavy accents hard to make out - I had to continuously rewind to try to hear what's being said.
