The Getaway

Director: Sam Peckinpah
Year Released: 1972
Rating: 3.0

Punchy - if slightly overextended and contrived - chase picture by Peckinpah, with then-husband-and-wife tandem Steve McQueen and the pretty but blank Ali MacGraw on the run from the America Itself with $500k in a black bag and dreams of paradise in "Mexico." I was never exactly sure of some of the decisions McQueen's character makes, but this isn't about 'thinking' exactly, just the intensity of the situation and, of course, McQueen's bravado. Peckinpah aficionados will be pleased to know - if they haven't already watched this - that his usual taste for gunplay and stylized editing is still evident.
