Shadow of the Thin Man

Director: W.S. Van Dyke II
Year Released: 1941
Rating: 3.0

Pleasant fourth installment in the impressive Thin Man series - Nick and Nora get suckered into another hard-to-solve crime involving rigged horse racing and Nick Jr. starts off on the near impossible task of weaning his father off the sauce (kids ... no respect). William Powell and Myrna Loy are so natural together I imagine they could almost do the routine in their sleep (or, at the very least, without a script), which shows how far chemistry (and some punchy dialogue) can take two very talented performers. The supporting cast is as solid as it's been in the past movies, and I personally get a kick out of the gruff police chief and the way he's always way too many steps behind the Charles' (Stella Adler also puts on a show as the nasty dame tied to the baddies).
