Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Director: Mamoru Oshii
Year Released: 2004
I have the same complaints about the 'sequel' to Ghost in the Shell as in the original film - characters are cold and unpleasant, the storyline is cryptic and disorienting and the dialogue leans too heavily on philosophizing that works better in smaller doses (one character is even named 'Haraway' - after 'chimera' theorist Donna Haraway, perhaps?). That said, the CGI mixed with animation is dreamy to look at, and the attention to detail is commendable (the Japanese really know how to animate dogs - Ein in Cowboy Bebop was particularly lovable looking, even for an anti-dog person like myself).
