Second part of the Thin Man series which has Nick and Nora back in San Francisco and on the job again, first looking for a missing man, then finding dead bodies everywhere. I found this movie to be significantly less successful than the first picture, as the concept of two alcoholics trying to solve complex mysteries isn't as fresh - how Nick Charles can figure so much with so little is pure screenwriting contrivance or perhaps one of the lesser known side effects of delirium tremens is clairvoyance - and the interplay between William Powell and Myrna Loy isn't as pronounced. Asta, coincidentally, has the movie's two best scenes, as he tries to sidetrack a rival from getting to Mrs. Asta (in the 30's, even the dogs needed spouses in order to be seen together).
