Guys and Dolls

Director:  Joseph L. Mankiewicz
Year Released:  1955
Rating:  2.0

While I hate to repeat the complaints of others, sometimes when multiple people have a similar problem with a film it actually holds true: in this case, I'm not entirely satisfied with the Marlon Brando-Jean Simmons sub-plot, or with the casting of either Brando or Simmons, who have very little chemistry together. Frank Sinatra is fantastic as Nathan Detroit - a less depressed variation on his Man with the Golden Arm character - and some of the dialogue is ultra clever, but there's too much 'flair' and silliness in the story and production for me to really respond positively.
