Cinematic adaptation of a famous text on abnormal psychology ... specifically the bizarre "Multiple Personality Disorder." Joanne Woodward won an Oscar for her portrayal of "Eve" a woman who harbors three personalities: the meek housewife, the sexy flirt and the woman with no name and no past. Woodward is not believable as this mentally unbalanced woman (who can change into any of these different people at any time), but that may not be entirely her fault: to me, this material isn't filmable. The ending is unrealistically upbeat and quite unlikely (I'm not so sure people with disorders are cured so easily). Lee J. Cobb is good as the dead-serious psychiatrist (complete with Freudian cigars!).
