Love Me Tonight

Director: Rouben Mamoulian
Year Released: 1932
Rating: 3.5

Bubbly musical that has tailor Maurice Chevalier wooing primadonna Jeanette MacDonald while pretending to be of royalty; Mamoulian's freewheeling approach and cinematic tricks compliment the bouncy Rodgers & Hart songs. The script, which sneaks in many double entendres and sexual innuendos, was initially met with opposition from the censors (not to mention the scene where Chevalier measures MacDonald's bust) and is just as sexy/witty today; Chevalier, as a cheery romantic, is as likeable as he's ever been. My only question: why pick MacDonald over the equally adorable Myrna Loy?
