I have to admit that I'm at an immediate disadvantage, having seen the very well done report on Stephen Glass on television not long ago - a story told by some skilled, legitimate television journalists - so I knew all about the fiasco at The New Republic. So while seeing this, I felt like I was watching a made-for-TV docudrama about the incident, with skilled performers (Peter Sarsgaard being the best as the intrepid editor who helped catch and fire the fraudulent reporter) pulling the emotional weight of the piece; other than harping on the dignity (!) of The New Republic (!) and the importance (!) of serious journalism (!), it told me nothing I hadn't already known.
