Southern Comfort

Director: Walter Hill
Year Released: 1981
Rating: 2.0

A group of emotionally stunted National Guardsmen takes on loony Cajuns because of their unfathomable stupidity in this update of The Most Dangerous Game. Gets a better a little over an hour through, since by then the worst actors have been executed, leaving stone-faced Powers Boothe and even-tempered Keith Carradine (whose performances are tolerable) to remain. Total suspension of disbelief is mandatory as Hill and his screenwriters unfurl one implausible scene after another; it isn't a trial to sit through, but you wish the character outlines and dialogue were revised in some way.
