Attack the Gas Station!
Director: Kim Sang-Jin
Year Released: 1999
Rating: 1.5
Bored with their lives and tired of social oppression, a gang of miscreants robs a gas station twice, the second time deciding to actually work by pumping gas and taking the cash from the customers. The social criticism is heavy handed - the protagonists' flashbacks show them being picked on or called names, and in my favorite, the one artist's father smashes his canvases over his head while calling the boy's mother a 'bitch' - and the foul language excessive; it's trying too hard to be slick and fun (you can see the sweat). Couple those flaws with the goofy acting and exaggerated camera movements and zooms, and what remains is a fairly lame 'comedy.'
