Michael Mason (Jason Statham), who once served with the Royal Marines and was an operative for MI6, is hiding out in the Outer Hebrides when he has to save his teenage neighbor Jessie (Bodhi Rae Breathnach) from drowning (her uncle's boat capsized and she was attempting to rescue him) and then finds himself targeted by killers sent by his former boss Manafort (Bill Nighy). Although Statham remains an empathetic action hero (he's also one of the producers) and the warning about mass surveillance fits the times, it's mindboggling how not a single new idea is presented on screen and every scene is lifted from similar One-Man Army movies, including the chase sequences and the fights (there's even a home invasion and a battle in a dance club) and it took zero effort to come up with the title. It's a little funny the way Mason continuously tells Jessie he's trying to ditch her because he doesn't want to "endanger" her, and yet she's repeatedly been in harm's way from the start. Just arm the young ladies with machine guns and watch how quickly they figure 'em out....
