Blue Steel (1990) review

Newly sworn-in NYC police officer Megan Turner (Jamie Lee Curtis) stops an armed robbery at a grocery store by shooting the assailant (played by the late Tom Sizemore), except one of the people in there, Wall Street trader Eugene Hunt (Ron Silver), steals the bad guy's .44 and proceeds to roam around the city murdering folks with it ... and while he's doing that, he seduces Megan.  Considering the female lead and director, it wouldn't be difficult to do a "feminist" reading of it - and how women are treated in male-dominated professions - but it's so utterly and consistently preposterous, with innumerable dumb decisions made every minute, it would probably not be worth anyone's time and energy.  Without any tangible motive, Silver's asked to ham it up as a lunatic - he hears voices! he wipes his victim's blood on his chest! he puts Megan's name on a shell casing! - because apparently dealing with commodities as a day job can send a person off the deep end.  Clancy Brown is in there as the homicide detective who believes in Megan ... although it's fun to remember he's also the voice of Mr. Krabs on SpongeBob SquarePants - to intentionally misquote that character, "I can think of ten good reasons to never let go of a dame, boy."
