Love (2024) review

Unmarried urologist Marianne (Andrea Bræin Hovig) is matched up with geologist Ole Harald (Thomas Gullestad) by her friend, Heidi (Marte Engebrigtsen), but she's on the fence when it comes to a relationship with him (since he has an ex-wife who lives nearby and two daughters) while her co-worker, nurse Tor (Tayo Cittadella Jacobsen), cruises for men and becomes fascinated with Bjørn (Lars Jacob Holm) who has prostate cancer.  As the last part of Haugerud's Oslo Trilogy, it concludes the series on a high note, as it contains some exceptionally perceptive and mature commentary on dating in the age of social media: after spending an evening with Ole Harald, Marianne meets a married man on Tinder (and they have sex) while Tor uses Grindr to locate potential lovers, and the discussions they have throughout (regarding romance, death, moral behavior and so on) are captivating.  The film is not only a love letter to the capital of Norway, but about the strange nature of love itself - recovering from surgery and unable to have physical relations, Bjørn and Tor sleep next to each other like an elderly couple: once lust subsides what remains is caring and devotion.
