The Rip (2026) review

The Miami-based Tactical Narcotics Team, consisting of Dumars (Matt Damon), Byrne (Ben Affleck), Ro (Steven Yeun), Numa (Teyana Taylor) and Lolo (Catalina Sandino Moreno), are still reeling from the execution of their captain Jackie Velez (Lina Esco), and then follow up on a tip that there's drug money hidden in a house occupied by Desi (Sasha Calle), except the group is all suspicious of each other and their motives.  For long-time pals Damon and Affleck, it probably sounded like a fine project to star in together, but the script (by Carnahan) is lackluster and not worthy of their talents, as it goes in heavy on "tough guy behavior" (f-bombs galore, several fist fights), rehashes multiple ideas that one might have seen on any given televised police procedural and contains a rather unremarkable "twist."  The "point" seems to be that the majority of people in law enforcement are inherently decent and wind up doing the right thing - it is based on a true story - although most ethical individuals don't need motivational sayings tattooed on their hands: can you imagine having a surgeon with "Don't Murder the Patient" permanently inked on his or her forearm?
