The Golden Child (1986) review

Private detective Chandler Jarrell (Eddie Murphy), who specializes in locating missing youngsters, is approached by the mysterious Kee Nang (Charlotte Lewis) and informed it is his "destiny" to rescue an abducted Tibetan child (J. L. Reate) - that possesses the ability to "save the world" with "compassion" - but in order to do so he must fly to Kathmandu and obtain a "magical dagger" that can be used against kidnapper (and demonic entity) Sardo Numspa (Charles Dance).  This was released after 1984's financially successful Beverly Hills Cop so people showed up at the theatre to watch Murphy, yet what's on screen is a hopeless jumble: Lewis is an almost non-entity, the "dream sequence" could have come out of an entirely different movie, the soundtrack (credited to both Michel Colombier and John Barry) is abrasive and Murphy's trademark quips have little effect.  In an interview with Mr. Dance for Fangoria, he broke down everything that went wrong with it: there was studio interference, Barry's original score was scrapped, scenes were reshot and so on ... and what remains is complete drivel.
