Die My Love (2025) review

Jackson (Robert Pattinson) and his girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Lawrence) move into (and clean up) the house once owned by Jackson's uncle Harry (Nick Nolte) which is where Grace becomes pregnant and gives birth to a healthy baby boy, but her mind turns sour and she starts behaving in a crazed manner: she crawls around the lawn on all fours with a knife, shoots the family dog and tosses herself through a glass door.  There have been a couple of movies of late about ladies dealing with mental illness (Nightbitch, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You), and Lawrence (who also produced) tries to put in an 'actorly' performance, yet as a supposed examination of psychological distress it's facile and monotonous: it takes close to an hour and a half for Grace to finally receive treatment, and after she's released, she hasn't really improved and accuses Jackson of "putting her away."  The intent of the movie (which was adapted from the book by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz) is to have the audience empathize with Grace's condition - Jackson's mother Pam (Sissy Spacek) tells her, "everybody goes a little loopy the first year" - except millions of women have children and it's doubtful that most of them are smashing their faces in a mirror or burning a whole forest down with their "feminine rage."
