Good News (2025) review

Anti-government communists from the Red Army Faction - with Show Kasamatsu (who was superb in the Tokyo Vice series) playing their leader - hijack a Japanese commercial plane and demand to be taken to Pyongyang (in North Korea) which alarms the South Korean government, so a mysterious figure referred to as "Nobody" (Sul Kyung-Gu) intervenes and acts as an advisor to Seo Go-Myung (Hong Kyung), a lieutenant in the ROK Air Force, in order to save the passengers.  It was inspired by an event that took place in 1970 and tries to take a 'lighter approach' to the never-ending tension between the two countries that meet at the Military Demarcation Line, except it's terribly corny and it goes off on too many silly tangents instead of aiming to be a more streamlined black comedy.  The flippant tone reminds me a bit of the 2012 American movie Argo - especially the way in which they try disguising the Kimpo International Airport to look like the capital of North Korea - although the satirical aspects needed some major tweaking and it never feels as if anything is truly 'at stake.'  Also, the director likes quotations a lot, so here's a real one by the Bard: "Brevity is the soul of wit."
