Good Boy

Terminally ill with some type of respiratory disease, Todd (Shane Jensen) takes his best friend, a retriever named Indy (playing himself), to a house owned by his late grandfather (filmmaker Larry Fessenden) where Indy keeps getting freaked out by apparent spirits that are living there.  The entire film is told from the canine's perspective - with human faces blurred or obscured - which is a very cute idea, except the setup is inherently flawed: it's (currently) impossible to comprehend how a dog interprets the world, and since it's really about a pet "dealing" with the sickness (and eventual death) of his owner, the attempted "scare tactics" (and multiple scenes of Todd coughing up blood) don't add up to much.  Around the midway mark it was starting to wear on me - it would have been better off as a short - although those individuals not allergic to our furry friends might be more receptive.  It's important to note that Indy is owned by director Leonberg, and casting him as the lead is smart: he can be "paid" in treats, walks and head pats.
