The Woman in Cabin 10

Director: Simon Stone
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 2.0

Laura Blacklock (Keira Knightley), a workaholic journalist, is invited by terminally-ill billionaire Anne Bullmer (Lisa Loven Kongsli) to take a three-day cruise on her superyacht (named the Aurora Borealis) - which also has Anne's husband Richard Bullmer (Guy Pearce), Laura's ex-boyfriend Ben Morgan (David Ajala) and liquored-up wealthy lady Heidi Heatherley (Hannah Waddingham) on board - in order to write an article about Anne's new charity, but the first night at sea Laura's convinced she hears a body fall into the water, and no one believes her.  The cast is pretty good - even though he typically plays upstanding characters, Pearce is a credible villain - but they can't do a whole lot with a script this totally preposterous (it's based on a book by Ruth Ware): most of the story involves everyone gaslighting Laura (when not actively trying to murder her) although it isn't smart enough to make her genuinely seem like she's truly delusional.  The "developments" in the third act are especially odd, and the Ben character exists mainly as a sacrificial lamb to "save" the white woman.
