Who'd have thought the creator of such delightful cartoons as Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack desperately wanted to create a Ralph Bakshi-esque "animated sex comedy" with canines? Well, he did ... unfortunately: adopted "mutt" Bull (voiced by Adam DeVine) becomes concerned his faceless human owners want to castrate him so he runs away to pal around with his buddies Rocco (Idris Elba), Fetch (Fred Armisen) and Lucky (Bobby Moynihan), they crash a dog show so Bull can see his crush Honey (Kathryn Hahn) and then all of them visit a "strip club," are locked up in a pound and escape just in time to stop Honey from being impregnated by glossy borzoi Sterling (Beck Bennett). Tartakovsky is currently in his mid-50's so it's weird for him to make something so infantile and icky (there are copious shots of doggie buttholes and balls) and it's a one-joke movie (which isn't funny unless you're in grade school), although I begrudgingly appreciate his shameless enthusiasm for animals fornicating. Heck, there's even an LGBTQ+ subplot involving Lucky discovering his homosexuality ... and Bull takes it up the rump to protect Honey's innocence. Would you do that for your true love?
