Eenie Meanie
Director: Shawn Simmons
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 1.5
Edie (Samara Weaving) is trying to make healthy decisions for herself by working as a bank teller and taking a class in Economics but is shocked to learn from a physician that she's several months pregnant, so when she goes to find John (Karl Glusman), her ex-boyfriend (and the father of the child), he's in deep trouble with gangster Nico (Andy Garcia) and then she's forced to take a job driving the getaway car for a casino heist in exchange for John's life. As a Baby Driver knock-off (with an Aussie behind the wheel) it tries to be light-hearted with some silly banter between the leads and a couple of off-beat moments (like Randall Park's card counter stuck in a box and then unexpectedly killed), except it's abysmally paced and poorly mapped out: no offense to Simmons (in his directorial debut), but he has a long way to go before he's either Edgar Wright or even Steven Soderbergh. The ending is also quite unsatisfying (and implausible), although it's cool to see former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch playing a villain: I know he signed on so he can wear a mink coat, sip a flaming cocktail and fire guns at cars.
