Fear Street: Prom Queen
Director: Matt Palmer
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 0.5
Six high school ladies are in the running for the coveted "prom queen" crown, including outcast-with-a-past Lori Granger (India Fowler) and her pretty bully Tiffany Falconer (Fina Strazza), but there's a madman (or is that madwoman?) sneaking around wearing a red raincoat and a goblin mask who's busy murdering some of the girls (as well as the boys). It's adapted from the book by R. L. Stine (which is a part of his Fear Street series) but even as a Made-for-Netflix horror flick it looks cheap and is severely lacking in the story department: how pathetic is this particular town where winning the title "honor" is akin to getting an Oscar or possibly (gasp!) a Golden Globe? A few familiar faces appear in supporting roles, such as Chris Klein and Katherine Waterston as Tiffany's parents, Lili Taylor (playing against type) as a strict Vice Principal and Red Rocket's Suzanna Son as Lori's queer-coded confidante ... but anyone who existed in 1988 should recall that, for most (if not all) schools, individuals of the same sex were not permitted to attend dances "together." Sorry current young people, that's how the world worked, etc.
