Fountain of Youth

Director: Guy Ritchie
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 1.0

Or, Indiana Jim and the Pyramid of Water.  Thief Luke Purdue (John Krasinski) recruits his sister, museum curator Charlotte (Natalie Portman), to assist him in a mission funded by billionaire Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson) to locate the fabled Fountain of Youth, which involves swiping great works of art (as well as a copy of the "Wicked Bible") which supposedly contain "clues" to its whereabouts ... and they're pursued by both Interpol (led by Arian Moayed) and a mysterious woman (with ties to the Vatican) named Esme (Eiza González).  It tries to be this "exciting" adventure tale - loosely cobbled from books by Dan Brown and Clive Cussler and movies such as National Treasure - except it's missing ingenuity, inspiring characters and true gusto, so it flatly goes through the motions of traveling from one international location to another.  Director Ritchie only really gets motivated to do his job when there's a big car chase, and I wonder if the reason Portman signed up to do it is because of her real-life divorce from a philanderer and how her character is dealing with the same exact problem.  You know the script has reached a dead end once Charlotte's kid has to solve two of the "major puzzles" which stump the grown-ups.  Let's give it up for Generation Alpha: looks like you're the ones who are going to have to save the world (no pressure or anything).
