Snow White
Director: Marc Webb
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 1.5
Disney's live-action remake of their 1937 animated film should be quite familiar ... and yet is somehow one of the most "controversial" movies of 2025: Snow White (Rachel Zegler) is born to royalty in a magical kingdom but her mom passes away and then dad marries the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) who takes over the realm, turns Ms. White into a slave and banishes her - in exile, she befriends seven vertically challenged fellows, falls for rebellious Jonathan (Andrew Burnap), eats a poisoned apple and slips into a deep sleep, is awoken with a smooch and gets revenge. Although the movie itself is yet another flagrant cash-grab by The Mouse - they continue to dig through their own archives instead of actually doing the tough work and trying to make something "new" - the severe backlash is unwarranted, as several people apparently took issue with (a.) Zegler having a Hispanic background (b.) Gadot being Israeli and a former member of the IDF (which she had to do) and (c.) Zegler taking to social media to bash Emperor #47 and vocalize her support for Palestine. But in reality, it's better than the 1.6 it currently has (it's May 13th, 2025) on the IMDb (which is likely the result of "review bombing"), the songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are nice (even though there are too many of them), Rachel has a wonderful voice and it is arguably Gal's best performance in her career, as she relishes playing the villain. Relax, goofballs ... it's simply entertainment for children.
