Night of the Zoopocalypse
Director: Ricardo Curtis and Rodrigo Perez-Castro
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 1.0
An asteroid smacks directly into the Colepepper Zoo and is immediately consumed by a curious bunny, who then morphs into a monster and starts infecting all the other animals (turning them into evil gummy candy with glowing eyes), so wolf Gracie (voiced by Gabbi Kosmidis, who strangely sounds like Reba McEntire), mountain lion Dan (David Harbour) and pygmy hippo Poot (Christina Nova) have to figure out a way to stop them and save themselves. It's tricky making a horror movie for kids without it becoming too frightening (it's "inspired by a concept" from Clive Barker) and I suspect this might be a little much for a very young crowd, but slightly older viewers will most likely become quickly disinterested in the flagrant "borrowing" from more noteworthy features in the genre (namely Night of the Living Dead) and the characters aren't visually appealing (with the exception of Poot, who's modeled after internet sensation Moo Deng from the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand). The meta commentary from lemur Xavier (Pierre Simpson), a film fanatic who's aware of how movies are constructed, is supposed to be a cute wink to the knowing adults, yet the lack of original artistic decisions keeps it well below average.
