Heart Eyes

Director: Josh Ruben
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 1.5

For the past several years, a murderer referred to in the media as the "Heart Eyes Killer" keeps popping up in various U.S. cities (such as Boston and Philadelphia) around Valentine's Day to butcher lovers, and this time winds up in Seattle where he (or is it she?) continues his (or is it her?) murdering spree and specifically targets advertising employee (and former medical student) Ally McCabe (Olivia Holt) and consultant Jay Simmons (Mason Gooding) ... even though they're not in a relationship.  The basic idea is clearly "borrowed" from the cult horror movie My Bloody Valentine (not the band) except it tries to be this self-aware Scream clone where it leans into its jokey side and yet still makes plenty of head-slapping blunders.  The audience is originally lead to believe the "villain" is involuntarily celibate and jealous, but then it reveals that's not the case - it's actually a polyamorous couple who get their sexual kicks from stabbing and mutilating ... which somehow makes it more nauseating.
