Jennifer's Body

Director: Karyn Kusama
Year Released: 2009
Rating: 2.0

Locked up inside a mental hospital, "Needy" Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried) tells the story about her best friend, mega-popular cheerleader Jennifer Check (Megan Fox), and how after seeing the band Low Shoulder - with Nikolai Wolf (Adam Brody) as their lead singer - at a dive bar that burns down, Jennifer mysteriously "changed" and started to kill and devour young men.  It's attempting to be a horror-comedy mashup, but the goriness is basically off-set by Diablo Cody's snarky female-centric dialogue ("Am I too big?") and constantly sarcastic tone, and trying to make Seyfried's character the bookish/nerdy one (look at those glasses!) is quite a stretch (both ladies are clearly attractive).  The last act, however, is cheaply entertaining, as Jennifer chews apart Needy's boyfriend Chip (Johnny Simmons), Needy and Jennifer square off in a filthy swimming pool (while wearing their prom dresses) and Satan-worshipping indie rockers Low Shoulder get what's coming to them.  Although this was a dud when originally released, it has since amassed a cult audience ... and I suspect the "bisexual" component to it (Amanda and Megan kiss each other ... in close-up!) may have something to do with that.
