Coma

Trapped inside her bedroom because of a global health catastrophe, a teenage girl (Louise Labèque) tries to pass the time: she's fascinated by social media influencer Patricia Coma (Julia Faure) who advertises a memory skill game called The Revelator (which is a smaller version of Simon by Milton Bradley), creates imaginary scenarios for her dolls Sharon (voiced by Laetitia Casta) and Scott (Gaspard Ulliel, in his last screen role), experiences haunting dreams and discusses serial killers with her friends using web conferencing program Zoom. Bonello dedicated this to his daughter Anna, so it has a personal "feel" to it, except as a COVID-19 movie - that's about the anxiety and frustration many of us felt during those lost years - it's restricted in its scope and is full of ideas that never mesh. He attempts to dress it up by animating certain sections, but cannot help but sink into despair for the final few minutes, arguing that there's nothing much that can be done regarding the erosion of the world due to human ignorance. In my view, if we're all going to go down, go down swinging....
