Lieutenant Colonel Lam (Lam Ching-Ying) from the U.S. military is given a top secret - and dangerous - mission to accompany ex-convicts to Vietnam in order to destroy a bunker loaded with missiles before the enemy can locate it - once they arrive, they meet lady guerrillas from the Cambodian Underground, partner with black market merchant Chieh Man-Yeh (Yuen Biao) and then have to fend off the Viet Cong. This is a coarse rehash of multiple well-known action movies, including The Dirty Dozen, The Deer Hunter, First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part II except intentionally ridiculous, like when Sammo kills guys with leaves and several people are wiped out just trying to eliminate waste from their bodies. Some may find this sort of thing entertaining - Criterion recently released it on Blu-Ray - but it didn't do much for me: for cheap thrills, I sometimes prefer movies that make an attempt to be serious and it backfires. Side note: perhaps our troops would have had a major advantage in the Vietnam War if they were taught spinning back kicks and how to leap out of trees.
